Fleas Control for the Hamptons and Eastern Long Island
Fleas can be one of the worst nightmares for a pet owner, you see your poor dog or cat itching away because of these tiny parasitic bugs. For a homeowner, it can be even worse as fleas are very small pests that are difficult to get rid of completely from your home. While there are do it yourself solutions out there that may work with some reliability, most find it best to simply hire a professional for a flea infestation.
How Do Fleas Get into a Home?
The most common way fleas can get into a home is when a pet such as a cat or a dog somehow picks them up while outside. This does not mean that you need pets for a flea infestation to happen in your house. Fleas enter houses from outside, they can come attached to people’s clothes after walking through grass, or on animals that enter your home whether they’re invited or not. Oftentimes, it is not a pet that brings fleas into a home, even in homes that own pets. Flea treatments and repellents for cats and dogs are effective for the most part. Fleas often come attached to another animal that is unwelcome in a home, such as a rat, mouse, squirrel or raccoon. If one of these fuzzy intruders enters your house, it’s very likely they will be carrying fleas of all ages with them. This is important because although adult fleas are the most noticeable, they only make up around 5% of the population. Eggs make up around 50%, larvae around 35% and pupae 10%. This means that although you may not see the fleas, their eggs which are smaller than a grain of sand should be waiting to hatch somewhere. The eggs are hard to find and difficult to eliminate. That means you should use a professional to help rid you of your infestation.
