Earwig Extermination in the Hamptons and East End
Earwigs, while relatively harmless, are an unsightly nuisance in a house. While not found in a house as often as ants or cockroaches, they can accidentally make their way into houses under the right conditions. If you’re finding earwigs in your North Fork, or South Fork home, you need to call a Hamptons pest control company that has experience in dealing with them.
What are Earwigs?
You may have seen these weird bugs hanging around outside, often near damp, rotten wood. They look almost like an elongated ant with a set of pincers on their rear end. There are a lot of urban legends surrounding the earwig, especially surrounding their name. The urban legend goes that earwigs will crawl into people’s ears and live in, burrow into or eat people’s brains. Luckily this is not the case, however, they can be a nuisance if they are in your house. Earwigs are attracted to moist places, so one of the best things to do is keep your house as dry as possible. Although earwigs can have an intimidating appearance due to their pincers they are pretty much harmless. In very rare cases, when agitated, a fully grown earwig may be able to pierce an adults skin with their pincers. They are more likely to run than fight however so there isn’t much to worry about.
Preventing Earwigs in a Home
Unlike ants or cockroaches, earwigs aren’t really entering you home to steal your food. Usually, they end up in your home because it’s either getting cold outside, or there is a damp area they can make their home. They can typically be found in a basement, or bathroom, especially if there are access points from outside such as a crack in the foundation. The best way to make sure earwigs don’t enter your home is by making sure your home is dry and there aren’t damp places for them to hide. Make sure anything they can hide under is also in a dry place.
